DishDiva_ says: Welcome to MSN Live! Tonight we are pleased to welcome Train to MSN. Train's new CD is "Drops of Jupiter." Please help me welcome Pat Monahan
DishDiva_ says: and Charlie Colin to MSN Live!
DishDiva_ says: Hi guys, welcome! How is Denver tonight?
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: It is a clear beautiful brisk day and I am having the time of my life. I had the best day ever in Denver last night and today.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie: I also had a great time here in Denver. I went to a movie and got a massage. It was pretty good. It is so nice to be in the West. I can smell it and tell the difference.
DishDiva_ says: We have lots of questions for you guys, so let's get started.
DishDiva_ says: Obviously last week's tragedies are still on everyone's minds.
pege40 in Onstage1 asks: How has the latest world problems affected you all, and your overseas tours?
DishDiva_ says: Train says: We are about to find out. Our tour starts on 10/17. We plan on still doing the tour but we are waiting to see. We are really looking forward to going there. We will be going to the UK, Italy, Spain, Norway, Netherlands and Germany, so far.

DishDiva_ says: Train says: With more dates that haven't been confirmed.
MidnightTrain_05 in Onstage2 asks: What is your favorite thing about San Francisco?
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: I think my favorite thing is that it has everything a graet city has--culture, art, but it has the feel of a cool smart town like the kind of town you went to school in.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: It's different than NY or Chicago. Because it does feel like a town, you ar more apt ot take advantage of what the city has to offer. I go to more coffee shops and hear music.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: You cool with that answer, man?
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: That was an excellent answer, buddy.
chica_en_fuego in Onstage2 asks: Has Pat been giving Rob Thomas dance lessons? Cos he sure cut some rug on this tour!
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: Rob Thomas wishes. He was as fly a dancer as this homeboy. On his best day I will always be Fred staire in his eyes.
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: I see Rob on the side of the stage during the sets. Don't get me wrong. I love him, but he is a damn thief.
punk_chik_7 in Onstage4 asks: What is your favorite town, city, state or venue to play?
DishDiva_ says: Charlie: Pat, what do you think?
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: I don't know. I think the Filmore.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie: Like Happy Gilmore but with an F.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: That's where we thoguht it was really happening. We try to take advantage of every place we go so when we play that place, whether it is Venice Italy or just outside Minneapolis, we are excited.
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: They all become special in their own way.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: I walked into a movie theatre in Chapel Hill, NC and thought I could really be happy there. It is a tough question.
Cygnetc in Onstage1 asks: What is it that you think makes one venue a better place to play than another? Is it the acoustics? The stage set-up? etc etc??
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: I notice that between good shows and great shows, it's all about the crowd. We have played some places less beautiful but didn't have such great shows.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: It has nothing to do with us because we are pretty great all the time.
Funintherain_ in Onstage2 asks: What bands do you all like to listen to?
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: This is a question that is individual. For myself, I really like India Arie and Spearhead and Jazz all the time.
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: I dig hip-hop and that stuff. As time goes, we will incorporate more styles of the music we love.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: Don't forget the Chipmunks too, Pat.
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: Yeah, but only the Christmas album. It was all downhill after that one.
Swoosh7301 in Onstage4 asks: How many hours in the studio did it take to record "Drops of Jupiter"?
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: Days.
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: Weeks even. Two full months or more to write, pre-produce and record the record. In three months the entire thing got done.
lisa_199 in Onstage1 asks: Pat why is "Willy Wonka" your favorite movie???
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: It really is because Charlie was kinda just represented as the perfect quiet hero.
DishDiva_ says: Pat syas: Being a good person prevails. They say the good guy doesn't finish first, but this movie shows they do.
crazymary3 in Onstage1 asks: Bob Dylan said in the last few days that music these days is made by amateurs. How do you respond to this statement?
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: Is that what he said?
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: I don't agree. There are a lot of songwriters and a lot of bands that develop over a long period of time.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: Like Sparklehorse. . They are extremely great. If you look for it, there is incredibly good music out there. Being out on the road for the past few years, I don't see a lot of twenty year old out there.
Buddahwah in Onstage2 asks: What are the chances of Train making a jazz album?
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: Wow. We have talked about that. We do some great instrumental stuff. Stuff maybe for a film.
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: It is extremely likely that it will happen day.
Guest_homesick_trainfan in Onstage2 asks: Pat, how long have you been playing sax and trumpet?
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: Not long. I picked up the trumpet when we started touring and the sax a year after that. I am a long way away from being a trumpeter or saxophonist.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: I notice when you play that it is really lyrical and vocal when you play it.
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: I play it like a singer but it sure would be nice to play it the other way. Thanks Charlie. You play bass like a singer and you play a singer and you sing like a guitar player.
shimmerswimmer in Onstage2 asks: Who influenced you to become a musician?
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: Should be honest or cool? I really listened to music my parents listen to like the Carpenters, Burt Bacharach, Glenn campbell. I got attached to the ideas of melodies. I got EXTREMELY into weird avante guards stuff. I am kidding. I guess
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: that isn't working. Then I got interested in Paul McCartney and Wings, Elton John and Peter Frampton.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: I also liked Dave Grusin.
berkeleybrooks in Onstage4 asks: Any up and coming bands you guys are into or endorsing?
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: Some labelmates of ours, Pete Yorn, Five for Fighting, and John Mayer.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: Sparklehorse and a band called Siger Rose. They are really spectacularly talented and unique.
COBRAHITMAN in Onstage4 asks: Pat off stage you appear shy. How do you overcome this on stage so well?
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: I wouldn't call it shy, but we all need times to shine. Because I can fulfill that need in em, there are less times I need to shine outside of that.
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: I hope to give other bandmates a chance to shine.
Ojeannette in Onstage2 asks: It seems like you are playing huge venues these days. Do you miss the intamacy of the smaller shows?
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: This has been the longest consecutive range of dates. I do miss the intimacy of the smaller theatres but the big shows are pretty cool. You can get an honest to God communicative feeling with folks out on the grass.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: we have learned how to connect with people in this vibe. That also makes me appreciate playing clubs and theatres. I do miss that.
Guest_Tresa in Onstage2 asks: I'm looking forward to seeing you tonight in Denver. Is the show still on?
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: Yes, absolutely. We are looking forward to it as much as you are, Tresa.
Guest_homesick_trainfan in Onstage2 asks: Pat, is the cross around your neck something that's a symbol of your religion or did someone give it to you or both?
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: It is not a symbol of my religion. It is something my mother had and the only thing I kept of hers.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: That is just because she had a tarantula collection. (laughs)
nikki2141 in Onstage1 asks: Do you guys have any "rituals" that you do before perfoming each night?
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: We get together 30 minutes before the show to write the set. We see what kind of mood we are all in. We joke around and get in a good mood. Scott winds up his drums. I juggle. We all stretch out. We get excited about the gig and get focused.
windsorgirl_1 in Onstage4 asks: How do you get a front row seat, or near the front row? I have been on the computer the minute they come on sale and still no luck.
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: With Train/Matchbox 20, Matchbox 20 let their fan club get the first ten or twenty rows. Other than that you'd have to work at a radio station or something like that. That is the way they set it up.
MidnightTrain_05 in Onstage1 asks: Is it important to you that you keep in touch as much as possible with your fans (such as with the "journal" on your website)?
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: Yeah. Very much so. Jimmy writes that. This morning I read our journal and I was moved by it. I was wondering if it was ok to play shows lately but the response is beautiful.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: People around the world have been saying they want us to play. So, I just say yes.
SamZander in Onstage1 asks: What's the name of the DVD? And why did you choose that name?
8Thank you! Our guest has received your question and will make every effort to answer it. However, due to the large number of questions submitted, not all questions can be answered.
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: We are calling the DVD "Midnight Moon." It is a lyric from "Mississippi." We tried to think of naming this record with a visual. The best way for us was to pull a lyric that respresented us being on the road. We see a lot of midnight moons.
Princess6471 in Onstage1 asks: What is the significance of the child wearing the crown on your album covers, if any?
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: We originally liked the simplicity of the corwn. There is something about the image of a prince or a king. The first record, he looked a little torn up.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: On the second record, there was a little kid. It represented innocence and what will happen. It seemed to make sense to us. It spoke to us, I guess.
starbabygurl1 in Onstage1 asks: What advice would you offer to aspiring musicians?
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: Tenacity. I have noticed we have bumped into friends of ours who are making records and touring
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: It takes the right chemistry and timing. It is not a matter of deserving it right away. If you are prolific and stay with it, it works out. It is difficult and fun and it is worth it.
DishDiva_ says: Pat, Charlie thanks for joining us tonight in Denver before your show. Best of luck onstage tonight.
DishDiva_ says: Charlie says: Thanks for the questions.
DishDiva_ says: Pat says: We hope that everyone is safe and that everyone you love is safe. Don't lose faith that being good to one another is really the way we will all win in the end I suppose.
